... El español Juan de Garay, segundo fundador de la ciudad, llegó desde Asunción, tras un largo viaje en barco por el río Paraná. Luego de explorar la costa decidió que el terreno era adecuado para erigir el poblado, que se encontraría media legua más al norte que el asentamiento de la primera fundación (actual Parque Lezama)...
... La población fue reducida durante mucho tiempo y los barrios fueron creciendo alrededor de los templos, entre los que se distinguían las construcciones jesuíticas. Los pobladores se dedicaron a erigir las primeras viviendas en los solares que les fueron asignados. La ciudad se ordenó en torno a la Plaza Mayor...
...Este rincón porteño se caracterizaba por el ruido y el bullicio, las voces disonantes se confundían con los pregones que tenían cierta musicalidad. Hoy en día es un dato curioso para nosotros que el Río de la Plata se pudiera ver desde la plaza, así como las lavanderas con sus ropas blancas dispersas sobre las rocas...
